Off the Vent!!!

Our little star Danielle had such a big great day today! She is breathing so good that she is now OFF the ventilator!! This is huge news, especially because she is only 4 days old. So she is now on CPAP, the tube in her nose that just gives her air flow, no breaths, she takes all of her breaths on her own! They made this change this afternoon and when daddy was up there tonight she is still doing great. Of course there is a chance she could have to go back on the vent, but this is a huge step in the right direction. Her settings are at a medium to low level, she could require more oxygen, so far she has not, but the CPAP is way better than the vent.
I also got there this morning just in time for her first bath! It was precious. I have posted pictures, she loved it and looks so clean and cozy now. In the pics she still has the vent in but after the vent was out it is so nice to see her little mouth moving all around. She also started feedings for the first time today. She is being fed 1.5 cc's every 3-4 hours, if you know how much a cc is it is a REALLY small amount, but that is how they start them very slowly. She is doing great with those and only having trace residuals or none at all.
They did want us to Kangaroo with her today. Since I am there during the day I will do it for the first few times. Brad is fine with that and would rather wait until she is a little bigger anyway. But because of the change to the CPAP, the kangarooing got postponed until tomorrow. This is the goal for tomorrow so I am very excited to snuggle our little girl for the first time since she was born. It is just so good for them developmentally to feel mommy and daddy. The developmental specialist came in today and gave us ideas and tips on how to touch her and talk to her softly so she really knows we are with her.
So today another great day for our little one. Dylan is doing great also, getting back in his routine and a long nights sleep are things he just really needs. He plays so hard at daycare he is tired at night, this is how we know he is doing great. We are balancing our time with each baby well so hopefully we continue on feeling this way. Again the strength of our daughter is shining bright, she is our little star and fighting with all of her might!~
